Children with Special Abilities

Accommodating Children with Special Abilities and unmarried daughters at Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing

Parents of Specially abled children are always anxious about the future of their children after their demise.

Keeping this in mind, we, Thikana Shimla Senior Citizen Housing, are committed to create a truly inclusive and supportive environment for families with children who have special abilities. Understanding the unique needs of these families, we offer a special membership option designed to provide comfort, care, and a sense of community for both parents and children.

Membership for Parents of Specially Abled Children
Parents with a specially abled child, with at least one parent aged over 50 years, are welcome to opt for membership at Thikana Shimla. Along with the membership, it is mandatory for the parents to secure one specially abled child care accommodation within the premises to ensure that their children receive the best possible care and attention within the community. The specially abled child care unit will cost approximately Rs.10lakhs which will be over and above the membership contribution / security deposit.

Accommodation Options for Parents and Children
To suit the varying needs of families, we offer flexible living arrangements:

  1. Stay Together in Your Own Dwelling Unit (DU):
Parents can choose to stay with their specially abled child in their own dwelling unit. In this case, Thikana Shimla will not be responsible for any specialized care services, allowing the family to have more autonomy and privacy.
  2. Specially Abled Child Care Accommodation:
Alternatively, parents can opt to stay for specialized child care accommodation for their children, where professional care is provided in a secure and nurturing environment. Parents have two options for how their child can be accommodated:
    • Day Care: The child can stay during the day and return to the parent’s unit in the evening, offering flexibility for both parents and children. We will provide full service and care during the daytime at the specially abled child accommodation, but during night, when the child is staying with his / her parents, Thikana Shimla will not provide any specialised service.
    • Full-Time Care: The child can stay full-time in the child care facility, with occasional visits to the parent’s unit. This option ensures that the child receives consistent care while maintaining family connections.

At Thikana Shimla, we ensure that both parents and children are provided with the support they need, fostering a peaceful, balanced, and inclusive living experience for everyone.

Vocational Training for Specially Abled Children
In addition to specialized care, we are dedicated to empowering specially abled children through vocational training programs tailored to their unique abilities. These training programs aim to help children develop practical skills, enabling them to gain a sense of independence and self-sufficiency. By focusing on their strengths, we provide opportunities for personal growth, helping them integrate more fully into the community and society.

Lifelong Responsibility and Care
In the unfortunate event of the passing of parents, the Dwelling Unit (DU) will be transferred to the next registered applicant, while the membership contribution / security deposit will be refunded to the nominated beneficiary or the specially abled child. However, the specially abled child care accommodation will remain dedicated to the child, with Thikana Shimla assuming lifelong responsibility for their care. We understand the importance of continuity in care, and our commitment to the well-being of specially abled children remains steadfast, offering them a safe and nurturing environment for life.

Maintenance : The maintenance cost for the specially abled child at Thikana Shimla will be managed through a structured payment system to ensure continuous care and support. While the parents are alive, they will be responsible for covering the maintenance charge for their child. In the unfortunate event of the parents’ demise, the responsibility for the maintenance cost will transfer to the nominated beneficiary, who will then ensure that the charges are paid. Additionally, if the nominee is unable to meet the financial obligation, the maintenance charges will be deducted from the security deposit. This approach ensures that the child’s care remains uninterrupted, providing both security and peace of mind for the family. However, final decision regarding maintenance is pending and will be decided in a general meeting.

Thikana Shimla stands as a pillar of support, ensuring that every child, regardless of their abilities, is cared for with love, respect, and dignity, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Unmarried Daughters : Unmarried daughters of members are welcome to reside with their senior citizen parents at Thikana Shimla. In the unfortunate event of the parents' passing, the Dwelling Unit (DU) will be transferred to the daughter, ensuring her continued residence. Thikana Shimla is committed to providing lifelong support, taking full responsibility for her well-being and accommodation. This provision guarantees that unmarried daughters are not only assured a secure and comfortable living space but also have the peace of mind that they will be cared for in their later years, with the ongoing support and protection from Thikana Shimla.
